New Biz on the Block - Brunswick Daily

Brunswick will never cease to amaze me. It’s a suburb that always feels alive, people are willing to take risks and explore new ideas. In the past few months, in the midst of the biggest uncertainty phase we’ve been through, new businesses have taken a leap forward.

Within a few hundred meters on Sydney Road, four new food venues have opened their doors to the public. We invite you to pay them a visit, say hi, and try what’s on their menus.

  • Egglab. When it comes to eggs and buns, rules don’t matter and these guys know it. I won’t give away their menu, I’ll just give you a teaser of the ingredients you can have your bun and eggs with. Greek fetta, avocado, beef patty, chicken schnitzel, and relish are a few examples. Have your eggs at the bar or order from their cute window at 702 Sydney Road.

  • Docks Fish & Chips. A family run business with years of experience serving not only the favourites, Dim Sims, Calamari Rings and Fish & Chips but more. You might find Esther who will kindly guide you through the Dock’s menu which also offers burgers, fish with brown rice and your choice of salad, and skewers. Find them at 669 Sydney Road.

Too savoury, you say? Brunswick is the place to find the best offer variety of flavours and experiences.

  • Icecream Social. I don’t really know where I was transported when I entered this ice cream shop, my best description is a 1950s USSR soda fountain. Did that ever exist? If it didn’t, it does now at 421 Sydney Road. These guys have delicious ice cream, and I didn’t try their cakes but I would describe them as yummy-looking protest banners.

  • Swirl’d. Satisfy your sweet cravings at Swirl’d where you can have froyo (frozen yogurt), a coffee or other desserts (like Baklava or homemade cakes). The best part of the Swirl’d experience is the self-serve froyo, you get to choose how much you want and what to top it off with, the options go from cookie crumbs to fresh fruit. These guys are right next to Very Good Falafel at 627 Sydney Road.
