Let me begin by revealing something personal that I am now quite ashamed of! I was once ‘that person’ who would dine at a Brunswick café over the weekend and wondered why other people needed to bring their dog(s) with them for coffee or brunch!
Goodness, the guilt I feel just writing this now! Well, clearly something has changed since the moment I brought my precious little dachshund fur baby, Hugo, home. I could not wait for the day to take him out for a coffee or meal with me!
It is therefore my pleasure to guide you to three of Brunswick’s best options to grab coffee and brunch with your dog. I can assure you that in either of the following options you and your dog will feel comfortable and most welcomed by both staff and other customers alike.

Lux Foundry
The much-loved, heritage-listed and iconic Brunswick café, Lux Foundry, is one of the most dog-friendly places to sip a coffee or savour some delicious brunch.
Their generous collection of large umbrellas offers plenty of protection from Melbourne’s four-seasons-in-a-day weather. Also, if you don’t want to endure the busy atmosphere of Sydney Road, this is your place.
My friend, Hugo, and I thoroughly enjoyed our Piccolo’s and a brunch we chose from their eclectic and very appealing menu. Here’s a picture of us three with Lux’s friendly manager of the day, Ben.
Code Black Coffee
The name of this incredible coffee roaster is concealing a not-so-secret fact known to many locals of Brunswick. They have a large cemented and well-shaded outdoor area which makes it very suitable for brunch with your pooch.
Craving a coffee after grocery shopping in Barkly Square? This is the just the right spot for you and your four legged one.
Come experience Code Black and find a combo that not many eateries in Brunswick are able to offer. Great location, wide outdoor area, and an inventive menu.
Sweet Evelyn
Sweet Evelyn is indeed a sweet treat for your doggy date.
This wonderfully chilled café offers lovely breakfast and lunch options with plenty of Greek classics. You’ll find such a relaxing ambience and is run by the very friendly Martina (pictured below), who manages Sweet Evelyn with her mother, Connie. Ain’t that just so… Sweet!?
In all seriousness, the warmth of everyone here is beautiful. Located on the quieter and residential Union St, Sweet Evelyn has two areas for your dog; a cozy courtyard out back and some tables along the street out front. To further exemplify their commitment to being dog-friendly, Patch Pets and Pupsy have respectively recommended and reviewed Sweet Evelyn.
